I remember sitting in Starbucks with them. Matt, sat across from me and Maggie next to me. She was on cloud nine talking about her wedding day. Her classic style and how she and I had the color Navy Blue in common. Matt watched her in as she lit up talking about their engagement and upcoming wedding. It was very important for them to get married in the Catholic church, and what better parish to get married in than St. John the Apostle Church in Virginia Beach! What is even funnier is that my girls were both baptized in that church, ya’ll know I love Jesus, and growing up a catholic, Dominic and I became members of that Parish shortly after we had Maya. Father Rob even made us remarry since we didn’t marry in the church. He’s one of the most traditional Roman Catholic Priests I’ve met, yet he rides a Harley, owns a Great Dane and surfs and at one time, drove a Corvette!!! He has a wonderful humor to him, but I’ll never forget when he asked me why didn’t you get married in the catholic church Amanda (we married in a Christian church) I thought I’d be honest, and said “Well, I stopped going to church with my parents and just found another church in my 20’s I liked…. and thought “God don’t care what church you go to, as long as you show up” (Although Dolly said it better in Steel Magnolias) and he just looked at me and shook his head NO. I remember telling Matt and Maggie that story and they just laughed. We must have sat for 2 hours and talked. I knew right away they were a great fit for me. I quite honestly wanted to be Maggie’s friend. She’s genuine and funny and let’s be honest, us brunettes need to stick together!
Her wedding reception was going to be at Cypress Point Country Club in Virginia Beach. Navy and Pearls were her choice and you guys know how I feel about Navy Blue and Pearls, so I wont bore you on that. The day was perfect. The weather was warm but breezy. I walked in and was greeted by the BEST hug ever by Maggie. Driving in from Maryland every other weekend for my girls big days are so fun. Maggie’s beautiful Allure Bridals gown from Studio I DO was so classic and right for Maggie. Her button down back was gorgeous!!! We went to slip on her gown and I started un-bustle her gown and was SHOCKED to find a GORGEOUS chapel length train that was hiding in that bustle!!! I might have even gasped!!! Her gown looked stunning hanging from her signature Amanda Manupella BHLDN hanger too! We had the best light at Cypress Point for bridal party and romantic pictures! If you guys follow me on Instagram I was pretty excited about driving the golf cart there was this beautiful lake we got to head too right before sunset and the light was just MAGIC!!! Maggie danced the night away, the girls danced and danced and let’s not talk about how many times Maggie made me cry as she thanked me for just being her girl. She got a sneak peek at the day and those images brought her to tears. She was so entirely grateful that I was the one that captured her day. When in fact she has no idea how lucky I AM. It’s not everyday you can say you love your job. It’s not everyday someone can say they leave their kids and their husband for the weekend and go spend it with someone else 20 times a year. But I’m lucky…. because I can.
Maggie and Matt– here’s to forever!!
