I keep saying how I’m still pinching myself that I get to do Washington D.C. engagements on the regular now that I live in the DMV area. It was so nice to meet up with Lauren and Brian for their sunrise session in D.C. Washington D.C. not only is where they are getting married at, but it’s where they got engaged at. When Lauren had inquired with me, I quietly squeezed a little. I met her last year at her friend Charlotte’s wedding. She was a bridesmaid. I remember doing detail shots and Lauren was talking about how she was engaged and you know as a wedding photographer that word comes up and our ears go up. It was the funniest conversation because she went on to talk about her being in the Navy and being an Naval Officer. Which of course prompted me to talk about how Dominic, my husband is an Intel Warrant Officer. I chatted briefly about where he use to work and I asked her where she worked at…..this is just how it get’s so IRONIC…she told me where she worked and I just STOPPED DEAD IN MY TRACKS. She worked at the same building Dominic did in Maryland. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT????? Lauren told me she lived in Maryland which if I were drinking here’s where in the movies, someone would spit their drink all over themselves and it got better. Lauren lives 20 minutes from me!!! I had to keep my cool…. but I threw my hand behind my back and crossed my fingers that I would get lucky and maybe she didn’t have a photographer yet for her wedding.
Enter in the inquiry that made me squeal several months later! We met over coffee, chatted about her wedding at Decater House in D.C. and talked about her engagement at The Jefferson Memorial. Brian was sneaky. I made them tell me the story at their engagements again this week because I wanted his side too. Which was just as good. Un-Successful day of house hunting that left Lauren a little irritated turn lunch with friends, turn friends running late which Brian then says “we are just going to kill time and go to the Jefferson” — Lauren tried to fight him, but Brian stood his ground. Off to the Jefferson it was, where they walked up all the steps, Lauren took a couple deep breaths at her favorite place in D.C. and turned to Brian on one knee telling her how much he loved her and wanted to spend his life with her. Or….something kinda like that, because if you ask Lauren, she just remembers squealing REALLY LOUD! The perfect guy, with the perfect ring…the one her grandmother wore, the one her mother wore and now the one she would wear. Brian double checked her answer was yes and what do you know, but those sneaky friends who were running late, were actually there capturing everything on camera for them!!!
It was only fitting we started their perfect Washington D.C. engagement session where it all started. At the Jefferson Memorial. The fog didn’t matter, the sunrise was perfect off the water and we headed to the Lincoln Memorial and caught about 10 minutes there before all the tour buses came rolling in. We had just enough time to head to Georgetown to grab some pictures by the canal. Lauren’s red hair was perfection next to her green dress, and Brian always looks dapper in his hat. They swore they were awkward in front of the camera but I’m pretty sure they were lying. They laughed at the perfect moments. they snugged at the right times and it we finished right as the humidity kicked into high gear. Another perfect DMV engagement session with the perfect classic AMP couple!
