Shooting at the John Marshall Ballroom has been a bucket list item for me. Richmond VA is a spectacular city. Growing up in Hampton Roads, Richmond was just a hop skip and a jump away. When Sally messaged me a year ago and booked her wedding I might have quietly prayed she picked ME not only because she was AMAZING. She has the BEST personality you could EVER want out of a person. She’s just quite honestly, delightful…. and she gives the BEST hugs. So when we met for their Richmond engagements I pretty much fell in love with her even more after that first hug. It was one thing I looked forward to getting this past weekend!!! Kyle seemed quiet when we first met. But the way he looked at Sally was like he was completely smitten. Which, doesn’t surprise me whatsoever. They were the perfect match.
Sally was the only daughter of her doting father Randy. I felt at home when I walked into their quaint Richmond home, immediately being greeted by everyone. A spot had been chosen with the perfect light and chair by her Planner Haviland Events who is out of Chicago. Sally had prepped her “Amanda Manupella box” with all her details and set it so nicely at the chair. I LOVE when my brides take the time to read that 72 page Bridal Guide they get when choosing me as their photographer and they USE all that information to plan their perfect day. Sally read it all. From choosing the perfect vendors to the AMAZING uplighting that lit up the John Marshall Ballroom with different colors as the night proceeded along with stars at the ceiling the day was PERFECT!!! Her maids wore Navy (my favorite of course) from Weddington Way, the men, Tuxes from only the best… The Black Tux which I’m so honored to be part of their vendor family and can we just stop here to discuss the florals???? Jenn Henry with Field Day Creative SMASHED these arrangments. The dahlia’s and the ranunculus made me swoon for just about the entire day. Sally’s bouquet BLEW ME AWAY. I love that Jenn with Field Day used a Cafe Au Lait Dhalia as a statement flower and it just made the bouquet PERFECTION. Sally had the best addition to the arrangement that was placed on the ribbon of the bouquet. A pin. One her grandmother had bought when she fell in love with her husband. It said “I love a VT engineer” Sally’s grandfather passed away and it was only fitting Sally kept a little something with her all day that reminded her of him. I think the best thing about the pin and how God really does work in mysterious ways… Is Kyle is a VT engineer. Call it Fate. I think her Grandfather picked Kyle and God knew exactly what he was doing the day and made it all fit together with perfection. From the uplighting, the cake, to one of the BEST and most MEANINGFUL toast by a bridesmaid I’ve ever heard. They promised forever in a beautiful church and then danced the night away at the John Marshall in Downtown Richmond. Somewhere I can’t WAIT to shoot at again… It was the BEST way to end my 1st of TWO doubleheader weekends. At the end of Sally’s wedding reception, I had shot for 19 hours in 2 days. I had traveled HOURS away from my home in Maryland, missed Addison’s birthday the day prior and you know what guys??? It was worth every hour. I love what I do. I tell you that all the time BUT when I get to relive these days and tell you all about it. It solidifies that I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing. IF that makes any sense.
Sally and Kyle– here’s to forever!!
