I remember meeting Heather and Chris to talk about their wedding. They live in Richmond, but they were in town I THINK for a concert. When we talked via email I always offer Coffee or Cocktails when my brides want to meet me physically. I think I spoke their love language because they chose cocktails. Craft Beer. Which of course is my love language too. Besides Words of Affirmation. ha ha We sat for 3 hours ya’ll!!!! We had pizza, beer and talked ALL things wedding, Heather lit up when she talked about her wedding venue. The Mill at Fine Creek is one of the prettiest Richmond outdoor venues. Nestled in Powhatan, VA it’s quaint and romantic and it SCREAMS Amanda Manupella I think. I can’t wait to shoot there again as I write this! I seriously think it was the one of the best “dates” I’ve been on with a potential Bride and Groom. I’m pretty sure I walked away from that lunch PRAYING they would choose me. That’s how much I LOVED THEM.
The day was hot, Heather and I had discussed the heat wave, and prepared well. We cushioned some time for them to cool down in the cottage between parts of the day. The girls were in cocktail length rose petal colored gowns and the guys dapper as always in The Black Tux tuxedo’s. They are seriously my FAVORITE vendor for menswear. Chris is a busy guy. He’s my cool groom that travels the world touring for Country Music stars like Chris Young and Jason Aldean. He does all the kick ass lighting you see while your singing your heart out and drinking cold beer at the shows. So working with The Black Tux was perfect, they do all the work for you with a custom concierge service since I’m a preferred Vendor of theirs. I will say, Heather, being a school teacher showed considerable patience throughout the day. It was HOT. Sweat rolled off foreheads, the guys had handkerchiefs in hand the entire day but not one single person complained. Not a single person. If anything they high-fived me for working so hard in the heat with them. Their bridal party was BIG. 12 girls, 11 fella’s. They were fun, and I’m pretty sure I said they were #friendgoals all day!!!
The Mill At Fine Creek had so many perfect spots for a first look, we chose outside of the ruins in a nice shaded area for Heather and Chris to see one another for the first time and I did EVERYTHING in my power not to cry. Chris read his vows and had to take several moments to take deep breaths to get his out. That man has such a big heart. I FELT how much he loved her from the day they sat across from me over beers. He said things like, “You changed me” “You’ve made me a better man, a better person” “I promise to love you and love your family like you were my own.” There were times they laughed and times they cried together. Heather promised little but important things like “I always agree to drink a beer with you no matter the time or place” and my favorite “I’ll forever be your ride or die” you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face as they promised all those personal items to one another. I LOVE when a bride and groom choose to do vows in private. It makes quite honestly, the ceremony more memorable for them. They get to be PRESENT , they get to listen, to love and to swear to be each others forever, versus wiping away tears and making that time a blur because they were trying to maintain composure. THIS is why FIRST LOOKS are important and THIS is why first looks I truly believe do NOT change the memory of the ceremony. The reception was grand, sunset pictures under The Mills Willow Tree were perfect and they literally danced the rest of the night away. Their reception reminded me so much of my own 7 years ago. Dancing until you couldn’t dance anymore with your BEST friends surrounding you. I don’t think Chris and Heather would have had it any other way!! I can’t wait to go back to Richmond and shoot again at The Mill At Fine Creek!!! It’s easily climbed to one of my favorite most romantic venues in Virginia thank to them!!
