Wintergreen is where they wanted to promise forever at. Kevin and Lynn knew that much when planning their wedding. The two of them met online through a dating service and completely kismet!!! They grounded each other, they made each other laugh. It was just….. easy. It worked. Lynn’s dad described her as loving. Bend over backward for you if you needed it kind of girl growing up. She was so easily loved that he kept his eyes on her praying she would never get hurt. I remember telling Lynn after the wedding, all those sweet words her dad used to describe her were spot on. I saw it in her the first time we talked. Lynn had found me online and watched my promo video and she had felt like she knew me. The feeling was so mutual. When we met for their engagement session, we both teared up talking about her day on Wintergreen mountain and how much we loved the idea of a first look. It just being her and Kevin, no matter the stress of the day, it would be a way they could JUST BE THE TWO OF THEM… to remember what the day was REALLY ABOUT. Kevin wasn’t so keen on the idea, but I think no, looking back on their day. He’s glad they did it.
See- it rained on their wedding day. A LOT. They were supposed to get married 3,000+ feet in elevation on a mountain, outside with nothing but air and the view of the mountains as their backdrop. But mother nature had different plans. The temperature dropped, the fog rolled in and the rain started. When I arrived in Wintergreen, Lynn called me and told me they were moving up the ceremony so they could get their mountaintop wedding and then they would do it again for their guests at the regularly scheduled time. I paid my lunch tab and headed directly to Lynn early to make it happen. By the time we hustled and got hair and makeup done, mother nature decided to open up the sky and pour… an hour earlier than good old weather.com had predicted. The early outdoor ceremony was quickly called off, but we found the smallest shelter outside and did a first look so the two could have just a moment with the trees surrounding them. We all cried! It had been a whirlwind of a day!!! But as soon as they saw each other… all that stress went away and they quickly didn’t care about having to promise forever in a hotel ballroom. Just as long as they were married…that’s ALL that mattered.
However, mother nature was good to us, and gave us a 15 minute window AFTER the ceremony where we jumped on the resort bus and headed up the mountain with the bridal party and I got to snuggle Lynn (she sat on my lap!!) We found ourselves at the ceremony site, chairs soaked and fog so thick you couldn’t see past the fence line stopping you from going over the edge. But no one cared. The bridesmaids shook from being so cold. Our fingers were frozen in the 20-degree weather it was up there but I kept yelling, THINK MEXICO, WARM SUNSHINE ON YOUR SKIN, I doubt that any of that worked but I did what I could to power this BRAVE group through the nasty climate!!! By the time we got through the groups, I had about 5 minutes MAYBE 8 to do romantics. Lynn was shaking. Our hair was wet from the mist smashing into us from the mountaintop. We got it done and the night began and I could officially write off, foggy went mountaintop wedding off my list of “inclement weather weddings” (I’ve done hurricanes, no power, snow/blizzard-like conditions) The party went on, the drinks flowed and when I was done, Lynn pulled her “bride card” and made me stay and have a good time with her. Who am I to decline my brides?????
Kevin- Lynn…Forever is a long time… I’m so glad you’re doing it TOGETHER!!!
