I just loved Chelsea and Travis’ rustic wedding at Back Bay Farms in Virginia Beach. Chelsea and Travis are both First Responders in Virginia Beach and they had a clear vision for their wedding. Rustic, Classic and LOTS of friends and fun. Their job is so serious and scary some days that they really wanted to have a day set aside for themselves that was relaxing, filled with LOVE and friends! Let me tell you, it’s exactly what they got but we need to add the happiest tears ever into the mix. I remember when Chelsea and Travis met up with me for their engagements , I remember Chelsea asking if it was ok if they brought their son with them. He was a cute young boy that didn’t mind hugging and actually clung on to Chelsea. Some boys just aren’t those kids that want to cling on to parents when they are 7 and older. They get “too cool”… the best part about it was when I found out that Chelsea wasn’t even his biological Mom!!! I was blown away at how they just meshed so well. She loved him so well. He loved her and I was impressed at how well they just made a family. I know being a step parent isn’t easy. Having to constantly discipline a child that and hear “you’re not my mom” can’t be easy. Sometimes the relationship between the adults strains things as well. It couldn’t be more opposite for this family. Caden’s mom was in attendance at the wedding. She had a family picture taken with Chelsea and Travis and stopped the reception to toast Chelsea. To tell her that she loved her with all her heart. She was so proud that Travis had found a good woman, but most of all, that Caden had the BEST step-mother she could EVER WISH for her son. My heart was so full listening to them share their love for a boy that had NO idea the extent these women would love and support him for the rest of his life. At the ceremony, Chelsea surprised her boys with a speech directly for Caden. As tears flowed down Travis’s face from the moment she walked down that tree line to him, Chelsea promised to love Caden and support him and help him grown into a wonderful man like his father was. She was honored to be in his life and I’m pretty sure I could hear the sniffles coming from the guests as Chelsea pledged her love to that sweet boy who just glared up at her and hugged her waistline.
The emotions didn’t stop there, as the bridesmaids wearing the prettiest burgundy lace dresses stood holding sunflowers and Chelsea and Travis put together a beautiful unity puzzle made by a dear friend of theirs. Piecing together words that were important to them and what their family would stand for. They had an AWESOME food truck called GastroHub cater their dinner as their guests sat at Navy lined round tables with wooden centerpieces and more sunflowers. I just loved how much their friends and family meant to them as I watched Chelsea and Travis go around and hug EVERY.SINGLE.GUEST. Making sure they thanked everyone for coming. The emotion held strong as Chelsea stopped the reception to make sure that a special thank you went out to a small group of first responders that several months ago, could have possibly never made it home. The group of responders stood on the dance floor humbled by Chelsea’s gratitude and praise most of them in tears. Remembering the day that was possibly the scariest day of their lives, but proud they were all arm and arm together. I must have done everything in my power to not cry as I took pictures of this moment. Proud that I was there to witness and meet these people. Proud that Travis was my groom. Proud that he and Chelsea loved me as much as I loved them. They danced the night away as I left and their day was perfect.
I walked away with Chelsea’s last sentence was to her guests in my head: “Stop and thank a First Responder when you can.” I know I will.
