South (Well technically it’s Mary Southgate but she has always gone by South) and Pete got said I do in a place that was historic for her. The neighborhood she has the best memories in as a child. Her parents now reside there full time, but Sherwood Forest is a private gated community right off the Severn River in Annapolis. When she was growing up, this was the place she went camping at on summers, they spent their time playing buy the “beach”, playing tennis, and as bigger kids spent their days and nights riding around in golf carts. It was my second time photographing a wedding at Sherwood Forest and it was so nice to be back!
South and Pete are North Carolinians currently- Both living in Raleigh, I remember talking to South and Pete over Zoom when we first started talking and I loved that they were so down to earth. Neither of them wanted a fancy ballroom wedding with TONS of little details. They were simply focused on what they felt was important- saying I DO, and being with the most spectacular people of their lives, their family and friends. Little did they know the trials they would endure in the months to come while planning a wedding during a Pandemic. Planning a wedding from afar is already a challenge. I HIGHLY recommend using a well-qualified planner when you are trying to plan a wedding at a distance. Even with family locally helping, a professional wedding planner can step in and handle the things that you might not know to even do. It was one of the first things I told South and Pete when we spoke. It takes so much pressure and stresses off you during this time. Boy, did Jenn come through CLUTCH! She was able to keep up with ALL of Anne Arundel County’s COVID regulations during the year and she was able to keep South and Pete organized and really allow them to enjoy this process!
Between the beautiful florals from Willow Oak (which happens to be right down the street from me) and Affirmative Groove kicking butt in the band department it really was a night to remember. 125 of their closest friends and family gathered in the old Sherwood Forest clubhouse and simply danced the night away! But that wasn’t before they enjoyed freshly shucked oysters from Palate Pleasers on the wrap-around porch and quality bourbon and beers hanging right in a canoe. It was really the perfect Annapolis waterside wedding, that’s for sure!
